Radiators and under floor heating can share the same energy sources. This can range from primarily solar heating to purely hot water heat pump or gas combi boiler.

There are pros and cons of choosing between the two methods. Under floor has a slightly lower running cost if the concrete floor has been insulated correctly. This is often overlooked by builders or architects during design process. If the floor perimeter is not insulated then the heat will migrate sideways through the footing. Under floor also has a longer heating cycle due to heating up a mass of concrete before it radiates heat into room.

Radiators have a quicker heating cycle before being effective and don't rely on an insulated floor. They provide a more responsive solution, able to control zone heating more easily.
